This course taught me how utilize both theory and application to solve real world problems, instead of artificially separating the two as is often done in other fields. I was surprised by the wide range of applications of geographic analysis and GIS. I learned how GIS can be used to conduct analysis in many different fields and can provide new insight if a spatial component was not present in previous analysis. The highlight of the course for me was to be able to put my new GIS skills to use for my own idea of a final project in which I was also able to bring in my interest in mathematics and epidemiology.
